Sex Tech News: Roku to Ban Adult Content, Kegels for Men & Disability Startup Handi Renames After Trademark Dispute with The Handy
The biggest news and latest headlines on the sex tech industry.
“Roku is getting rid of Pornhub: The streaming-device maker announced a policy change last week that will effectively ban the world’s largest porn site, as well as a number of adult entertainment companies, from its platform on March 1, 2022…
“This includes many of the major adult content providers: Pornhub has its own private Roku channel, as do pay-per-view platforms like Adult Empire and AEBN, as well as adult video studios and subscription services like Wicked, Adult Time and Naughty America. All of these companies’ Roku channels are expected to disappear on March 1.” (via Janko Roettgers/Protocol)
“Handi founder Heather Morrison said they were approached by Norwegian sex tech company, who own the trademark for “The Handy”. They insisted the Australian startup change its name. Bump’n’s co-founder and CEO said she tried to find a way for the two brands to co-exist…
“Morrison said being forced to change her startup’s name was heartbreaking. ‘The name Handi meant so much more to us than a shorthand to hand job,’ she said.
“It positively re-appropriated Handicapped, had deep meaning for us and the disabled community, and brought the fun and play that sex + disability deserves.'” (via SimonThomsen/Small Business Cafe)
“The portable kegel trainer kGoal Boost officially launches on November 29, a company representative has confirmed to FutureofSex.net.
“The product includes a Bluetooth device and a companion app that guides users through exercises.
“The release comes six years after Minna Life, the company behind the kGoal Boost, hosted a successful crowdfunding campaign for its original kegel product, the kGoal for women. Months later, Minna Life unsuccessfully attempted to raise funds for the kGoal Boost, and the product was never released — until now.” (via Keats Iwanaga/FutureofSex.net)
