Sex Tech Long Reads: Sex After 70 & the ‘War on Porn’ Rages On
Plus mind-gasms and sex across demographics.
After taking a month off, I’m back to share sex technology news roundups once again. This time I have more articles than usual, so I will share them in two parts.
To start, below are some wonderful long-form articles and some shorter reads.
“When the CEO of Pornhub’s mega-mansion mysteriously burned to the ground, there was no shortage of possible suspects. Now, for the first time, the site’s shadowy founders tell their story.” (via Vanity Fair)
“Human sexual activity affects cognitive function, health, happiness and overall quality of life—and, yes, there is also the matter of reproduction. The huge range of benefits is one reason researchers have become alarmed at declines in sexual activity around the world, from Japan to Europe to Australia.
“A recent study evaluating what is happening in the U.S. has added to the pile of evidence, showing declines from 2009 to 2018 in all forms of partnered sexual activity, including penile-vaginal intercourse, anal sex and partnered masturbation. The findings show that adolescents report less solo masturbation as well.” (via Emily Willingham/Scientific American)
“Brain-interfaced ‘crowd orgasms’, however, challenge the technical boundaries of pleasure backing such arranged [Bluetooth sex toy] orgies. Leveraging brain implants or sensors, such interfaces will tap into the pleasure centres in the brain—thereby bringing participants to new orgasmic heights and allowing them to experience the euphoria of one or several people at the same time. Intense, right?
“What’s more is that the concept doubles up as a source through which futurists can explore the potential of both brain-to-computer and brain-to-brain communication.” (via Malavika Pradeep/Screenshot)
From 1984 until 2011, “adult software” companies were allowed to exhibit at CES—albeit in a separate section that eventually became the Adult Entertainment Expo, reports Engadget.
Jump ahead to the late 2010s, and more adult-related sex tech like AI sex dolls and virtual reality brands are on display. Female-focused brands start to increase, but not without controversy.
In fact, CES has been struggling to embrace sexual technologies without backsliding and controversy since the beginning. Here we share our CES sex toy news and sex tech brand coverage over the years. (via FutureofSex.net)
