Why You’re Hot for Resident Evil’s Tall Zombie Mom
Lady Dimitrescu shakes up the world of video games, provoking untapped desires and giant fantasies.
Over the past few months, you may have heard news about the new character from the horror video game Resident Evil.
First introduced late last year, Lady Alcina Dimitrescu has shaken the world of video games to its core, but most aren’t shaking from fear. Rather, they are shaking with excitement.
While some people might expect the villainess of a horror video game to be somewhat unsightly, many are infatuated with her. There are multiple reasons why the fans might like her: she can throw the main character around the room despite him being a grown man, and she has an imposing demeanor.
Also, her last name is a Slavic spelling meaning “a follower of Demeter, the Goddess of fertility”, and has three blood-sucking daughters. With all that said, most people may be interested because she is just over 9 feet tall, and may have a propensity for punishment.
A number of articles have already unpacked what it would be like if this countess stepped on you. One YouTuber did the math and found that, if you were to experience it once, you probably would not live to experience it again.
The desire for tall women
However, no one has really taken the time to talk about why people might be interested in this woman’s height, particularly when there seems to be a cultural pushback against women who are taller than average.
The science of attraction also suggests that shorter women might be preferred to taller women. With that said, stereotypes and surveys do not tell the whole story, and Lady D is evidence that there is a wider variety of sexual attractions than meets the eye.
Macrophilia is the attraction to people who are impossibly tall. While this could mean attraction to someone the size of Godzilla, it refers to anyone that is just very big.
The tallest person in recorded history was almost nine feet tall, and Lady Dimitrescu is literally a head (and a hat) above. Like similar related fetishes such as vore (being eaten in one bite), it is something impossible to experience in real life.
Giant fetishes and submissive fantasies
While some VR companies are working to make such things possible to experience, video games are another way people can get their needs met.
This fetish goes hand-in-hand with being submissive, as this fetish includes viewing oneself as insignificant in relation to a dominator or an insect to be squished. While some psychologists think this desire overlaps with interest in feet, I believe there is a qualitative difference between receiving pleasure from feet, and pleasure from being stepped on.
One media studies writer relates macrophilia to the story of Gulliver’s Travels, where the titular character embarks on a journey including both microphilic (very small people) and macrophilic (very large people) experiences. When coming across giant women, he experiences both feelings of nurturing, as if they were his mother, and insignificance, as if they were gods.
Returning to Lady Dimitrescu, who is both a mother and named for her fertility, the character is the embodiment of Gulliver’s experiences. While Lady Dimitrescu as a character may have been a happy accident, the developers have gone along with this interest.
For a horror video game, the Resident Evil developer Capcom may have made a mistake.
Someone should have told the designers that players should want to avoid these characters, instead of running straight toward them. Your attraction could be due to any number of reasons, but it is important to know that it is not something to feel embarrassed about.
If anything, your desire to get stepped on by the tall vampire woman is tapping into your base instincts. Lady Dimitrescu will be an opportunity for a lot of people to explore feelings that they had not considered with shorter vampire women—especially in a society that says men should be dominant and women should be submissive.
Regardless of why you are attracted to Lady Dimitrescu, you are lucky to live in the 21st century. As technology improves and artists share their work, there will be no shortage of giant women.
If this article inspired you to join the fun, Resident Evil 8 comes out on May 7th. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this is an interest shared by many people, so you are not alone in your interests. And of course, share this article with a friend or loved one if you are unsure of how to explain the feelings you have for the tall vampire woman.
