Robotic Sex Toy Osé Named One of Time’s Best Inventions of 2019
Let’s hear it for blended orgasms and Lora DiCarlo’s flagship device!
Securing investors and industry recognition can be an uphill battle for many entrepreneurs in the sexual wellness market, especially women-run startups.
In particular, the controversy surrounding Lora DiCarlo’s robotic personal massager Osé was one of the most recent and high-profile examples of sexism within the tech industry.
To jog your memory, at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) revoked Lora DiCarlo’s Innovation Award after citing a moral clause. However, sex robot developers and VR porn companies had previously been allowed to display their products at the annual tech show.
Fast forward to a year later, and not only has CTA returned the award to Lora DiCarlo, but Osé has also now been named one of Time’s best inventions of 2019.
The massager’s patent-pending design and engineering focus on giving the user a blended orgasm, which is a combined clitoral and G-spot orgasm. This is possible through micro-robotic technology that replicates the sensation of a partner’s mouth, tongue, and fingers versus the vibrations that many sex toys rely on for stimulation.
According to Lora DiCarlo, Osé was selected as one of the “100 groundbreaking inventions that are changing the way we live, work, play and think about what’s possible, ” and was included in the Wellness category for its focus on closing the pleasure gap for people with vaginas.
The publicity generated from the CES controversy has not only made Osé one of the most highly anticipated product releases for 2019. It has also positioned Laura DiCarlo as a leader for equality in tech.
As a sex-positive and gender-inclusive company, Lora DiCarlo’s ultimate goal is to create products and educational resources that promote female and LGBTQ+ health, wellness, and empowerment.
