Playboy Announces New Digital Platform, CENTERFOLD
The site will “serve as a home for the world’s top creators to interact directly with their fans.”
Earlier this week, Playboy announced the release of its new digital platform, CENTERFOLD, in the coming months.
The site will “serve as a home for the world’s top creators to interact directly with their fans and expand their communities and commerce businesses.”
The end of Playboy magazine
It has come as no surprise that the publishing industry suffered massive losses at the onset of COVID. One such casualty: Playboy magazine.
Playboy released its final print edition in the spring of 2020, stating a need to “transform our U.S. print product to better suit what consumers want today.”
The company promised a renewed focus on daily content in the digital realm.
A home for adult entertainers
Thus, the pivot to fully digital entertainment, and the celebration of digital content creators.
CENTERFOLD’s release is timely for Playboy — after adult content creators struggled through an OnlyFans-fueled month of drama in August, many are looking for new platforms that will prioritize their needs.
Although OnlyFans reversed its decision to ban adult content five days after making the initial announcement, the experience left a lingering feeling of distrust among adult entertainers.
In direct opposition to OnlyFans, CENTERFOLD is being built explicitly for NSFW content creators.
In a blog post, Playboy restated its dedication to the fight for “sexual liberation” and expressed its belief “that pleasure is a fundamental human right.”
