The 15 Sexiest Robots in Movie History

These inorganic beings have been manipulating our mainframes with their erotic circuitry!

It is impossible to imagine a future without robots.

The idea of artificial intelligence and mechanical mortals is ingrained in our unfolding civilization. We have been including them in one of our most indelible art forms—film—since, well, since we first started committing to celluloid.

From Maria in Metropolis to Rachael in Blade Runner and Ava in Ex Machina, these inorganic beings have captivated our imaginations. They are seen as the ultimate success of human’s creativity and ingenuity.

Of course, when it comes to expressing these hallmarks, people generally want to infuse a level of aesthetic and erotic appeal. Bigger, stronger, faster, and definitely sexier. With this type of outer shell and inner programming in mind, we find robots that have been created to fulfill many different working roles in films, from office help to sex slaves to evil mercenaries.

But what makes us believe in these creatures enough to get turned on by them? What qualities are infused into their fuselage and embedded into their bytes that make them irresistible?

To ascertain your favorite AI’s sex appeal, check out this list of the 15 Sexiest Robots in Movie History—they definitely turned on our hard drives.

This diverse cast of creations conjures both the rich history of sexy cinematic tropes as well as some new input that will surely disrupt your data. Because there have been so many robots in movie history, we’ve picked those who best compute based on the following schematics:

Sex Appeal: Does the robot ooze sex appeal—or just leak oil?
Sexiness: Is the robot or cyborg supposed to be sexy, or is this just a lucky coincidence?
Attire: Does the ensemble make the android?

15. Cherry, Cherry 2000

And you thought spilling coffee on your laptop was a bummer! The titular Cherry 2000 is the stereotypical “every man’s dream.” Played by the sparingly cast Pamela Gidley, Cherry 2000 is the slender, blonde companion robot of businessman Sam Treadwell. She’s designed to cater to his every whim, including doing the dishes and having sex. Unfortunately, they foolishly try to mix the two activities, which sets the scene for a madcap, cult sci-fi adventure after the lovely Cherry breaks down…

Sex Appeal: If you’re looking for an image that would define sexy in the 80s, Cherry would be it.
Sexiness: Cherry is meant to be a fantasy creation, to live out fantasies with. Why she wasn’t better protected against fluids is a bit of mystery…
Attire: Cherry is respectably stylish for an era of ghastly robot fashion.

14. The Fembots, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

Robots are the perfect character vehicle for writers and directors to swerve viewers with some sort of ridiculous ability. As soon as The Fembots are introduced by Dr. Evil, in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, you know they’re going to take advantage of their stereotypical feminine wiles. But did you anticipate bullets from breasts? Mike Myers takes a very 60s action film trope of the beautiful killing machine and subverts it masterfully by incorporating the male fear of the dangerous female body.

Sex Appeal: Myers had to aim at the groin to make these characters plausible, with just enough skin and scandalous outfits to send our sensors into overload.
Sexiness: Against mere mortals, The Fembots are two D-cups of trouble, blowing them away with boob power.
Attire: Go-go boots, bigger hair, and fluffy teddies—yeah baby!

13. Luke Skywalker, Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back

Of course, Luke isn’t an actual robot. He’s a cyborg! Part human, part machine, he loses his hand dueling with his daddy. The Star Wars character is fitted with a robotic hand to continue the good fight against the evil doers of the universe. A contradiction in terms, Mark Hamill was cast to be a pretty, all-American-type hero, but the combination of the character’s whininess and Hamill’s own mediocre sex appeal make Skywalker an odd choice for this list. We’re thinking more about his sexy bionic hand!

Sex Appeal: Luke matures throughout the original trilogy, eventually attaining the type of sexy swagger a dude with a lightsaber should have.
Sexiness: While some will argue that Luke is just a mortal with a prosthetic, we say having some hard wiring was his {booooooooossssk shhhhhhhhh} destiny.
Attire: Could Luke’s black glove actually be hotter than his sister’s golden bikini?

12. Gigolo Joe, AI

Long before Fleshlight [NSFW] and possibly vibrators, we have been hoping for synthetic sex workers. While we are currently coming closer and closer to realizing this technology (and then debating the ethics around it), film writers have been adding these characters into countless movies (more to come on this list!). And if you’re looking to add a male version of an erotic automaton, you can’t go wrong with the ever-appealing Jude Law. Designed to serve the sexual needs of a dwindling female population, AI‘s Gigolo Joe just might be one of those creations that lend credence to the fear women might fall in love with their sex toys.

Sex Appeal: A perennial sexiest man of the year candidate, Law brings a beautiful and flawed appeal to Gigolo Joe.
Sexiness: If being a pleasure mecha makes you sexy, then yes, he sure is.
Attire: Sex workers are always decked out in the hottest wear there is and Gigolo Joe’s shiny suits surely push the right buttons.

11. T-1000, Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Some people really fall for a steely gaze, and there is none finer than the smoldering, molten stare of Robert Patrick’s T-1000. While he’s certainly not a likable character, with all the hunting and shooting and killing, T-1000 first makes an impression as an intense, handsome police officer in a nicely-fitting uniform. But, as is often the case with robots, there’s more than meets the eye. This killing machine quickly goes from sexy and naked in an alley to a metallic monster. Though, you’ve got to wonder just many ways he can transform what is in his pants…

Sex Appeal: There’s something about the molten liquid form almost becoming a naked man that can certainly catch the eye. And Robert Patrick’s eyes will always be some of the most entrancing in film.
Sexiness: It could be argued that killing machines don’t need good looks, but T-1000 had to be attractive to get information from the humans of the past.
Attire: Police uniforms have taken a beating on the sex appeal front, but back in the day they were surely one of the most popular male stripper costumes out there.

10. False Maria, Metropolis

We always remember our first. And False Maria was everybody’s first sexy robot in film, that is. Metropoliswas groundbreaking in so many ways, and it is telling that robots and seduction were first linked to the female form. Robots have a long-believed perception of being both duplicitous and enchanting, and False Maria, the manufactured double of a poor worker who was trying to improve conditions, uses her sexuality to subvert actual Maria’s message to gain control over the lusting mob. Maria is also an exemplar of the fear of female sexuality and how it will cause despair.

Sex Appeal: While False Maria’s dance moves might be a little suspect, there’s no denying how her exposed skin causes a stir.
Sexiness: Inciting the masses to revolt is always much easier with a pretty face and blonde curls.
Attire: While somewhat demure in her famous speech, False Maria knows that pasties are the way to go when dancing Death into town.

9. Ava, Ex Machina

One of the most intriguing aspects of artificial intelligence is the potential of it blending seamlessly with organic intelligence. Will we and the robots someday interact as if compatriots, buddies, lovers? As the subject of a bold experiment in AI advancement, Ex Machina’s Ava holds the key to moving computed thought from stuttered and fragmented to smooth and convincing. And convince she does—Caleb never stands a chance as he attempts to determine Ava’s ability to persuade him she is “human.”

Sex Appeal: Ava is more than just a pretty face. That’s all we can see, but there is definitely more.
Sexiness: The story would have been much different if Ava were trying to persuade Caleb with a harelip.
Attire: Ava’s chassis has curves and lights and silver in all the right places.

8. David, Prometheus

There is a huge difference between Rosie the Robot of The Jetsons fame and Michael Fassbender’s turn as David in Prometheus. Sure, both are essentially housekeepers, but David takes on a far greater role due to his advanced intelligence. Who knows, maybe Rosie was much more than an apron and feather duster as well, but David is one of those androids that becomes indispensable in times of disaster and great need. But he’s also one of those robots that are, inexplicably, programmed to also have a smart mouth. Why do the two so often go hand in hand?

Sex Appeal: David is that well-mannered, nicely-kempt fella your mom wants you to bring home—a prim and proper chap!
Sexiness: There really is no reason for Fassbender’s soft eyes and smiling features—Rosie could have roused the crew from stasis…but they might not have liked it as much.
Attire: David would be more appealing if he loosened his top button—all the way to his notorious crotch.

7. Casella Reese, Cyborg 2

Playing a mechanical monster can be a very safe choice for a young performer. Robots and cyborgs evoke stereotypes that can be played upon while enhancing your chops as an actor—especially when that character also needs to flash some sexy moves. In one of her earliest roles, future Oscar-winning bombshell Angelina Jolie assumes the mantle of Casella Reese, a sexy suicide-bomb cyborg who is meant to deliver her explosive self. But feelings for a human get in the way.

Sex Appeal: Jolie was only 18 when this film was released, but the future Lara Croft was already blossoming into badassery.
Sexiness: Casella’s main purpose is to use sex appeal to charm the limbs off people.
Attire: While not as iconic as future roles, Jolie’s tight tops and dashes of skin definitely portend future costume designs.

6. Edward, Edward Scissorhands

Now, this one is debatable. We’re not actually sure if Edward is a robot…or a cyborg…or an android or a re-animated human. Our only clue is the quick glimpse we’re given of The Inventor’s diagrams (are they schematics?). Despite the ambiguity of the character, this just might be an excuse to get the pretty, baleful visage of Johnny Depp on the list.

Sex Appeal: Not even white facepaint, a lack of eyebrows, Robert Smith hair, and, well, Scissorhands could diminish the beauty that is Johnny Depp.
Sexiness: Edward had to be hot and unique or nobody would have taken an interest in him.
Attire: An inspiration to goth kids and bondage-wear fetishists the world over.

5. Pris, Blade Runner

The first of two Blade Runner entries, Darryl Hannah’s Pris is one of the predominant artificial intelligence stereotypes there are: the sex worker. A “basic pleasure model” android, what Pris lacks in intelligence, she more than makes up for in physical stamina and strength. She, along with three other rogue replicants, seek an extension on their manufactured lives before being retired. Not only in character, but also adornment, we’re lead to think of Pris as a simple tool that came before the next upgrade.

Sex Appeal: In the early 80s, Pris’s teased hair and new wave style would have been “cold”!
Sexiness: “Basic pleasure model” is a pretty clear indication that we should really want to look at Pris.
Attire: Early 80s New Wave made Pris both an icon…and designates her as ultimately disposable.

4. Rachael, Blade Runner

Rachael is that upgrade, a new, better, more refined model than “basic” Pris. Rachael is what CDs were to cassettes. Implanted with memories from a human, Rachael doesn’t even realize she is a replicant, and as such she is more desirable. She even gets her fella in the end! But this just demonstrates our desire to build it—everything—better and as human-like as possible, while at the same time maintaining control over our creation.

Sex Appeal: We’d be looking at a proto-business-dominatrix were Rachael bossy.
Sexiness: Rachael is definitely meant to be coy and alluring, sexy isn’t really her setting.
Attire: Business wear and big shoulders defined the decade for smart and sexy women.

3. Evil Bill and Evil Ted, Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey

There once was a magical time when Keanu Reeves was considered a slacker, goofball heartthrob. And that other guy was around as a backup if Keanu turned you down. So it made perfect sense that a sequel would feature TWO Keanus for extra scruffy-headed eye candy. Whenever there’s a robotic facsimile of a main character, you know there’s going to be a head-to-head showdown between the two. If they get into a tight clinch, you’ll wonder “will they kiss!?” Maybe that’s just me.

Sex Appeal: There was a time and a place where skaterdude was sexy. In a galaxy far, far away, man.
Sexiness: I can only imagine another skater or Betty deeming this Wyld Stallyn dreamy…and if so, I’d advise using a helmet from now on.
Attire: No. Not on any temporal plane.

2. Gang of Female Robots, Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine

If Dr. Goldfoot’s army of beautiful bionic women were the precursors to Dr. Evil’s Fembots, then we’re looking at a parody of a parody! And robots are fantastic vehicles for caricature! By combining spy-genre, beach-genre, and horror-genre performers with an outlandish plot, Dr. Goldfoot slips right in the true school of robot films: B-movie cult classic. Who can’t love a film featuring Vincent Price creating golden-bikini’d and automated minions to seduce and rob men!

Sex Appeal: If you like skinny women in golden bikinis, then groovy!
Sexiness: Mastermind Price created them to rob men using sex appeal—we’d hope so!
Attire: Princess Leia made the golden bikini part of the common lexicon, but looks like she was just a copycat!

1. Galaxina, Galaxina

Taking top honors is a “the most heavenly body of all,” the titular character of the notorious early 80s sci-fi comedy classic. Remembered more for the unfortunate murder of star and former Playboy Playmate of the year Dorothy Stratten the same year the film came out, Galaxina combines all of the top sexy female robot stereotypes into one rousing and cheesy parody of women’s roles, men’s expectations, and how each of those were shifting. Stratten showed some emerging comedic talent along with her stunning beauty, and it would have been interesting to see where she could have taken her career. But Galaxina was all about exploiting…and did a fine job.

Sex Appeal: Stratten could have played Galaxina like a cardboard cutout, but instead was out of this world sexy!
Sexiness: Absolutely! This dream machine pushes everybody’s buttons.
Attire: Skin-tight satin shimmers and shakes in the most seductive ways!
