How VR Porn Drove the Virtual Reality Industry
The popularity of X-rated immersive content continues to rise.
When Facebook bought Oculus, there were plenty of critics around. No one could make sense, why Mark Zuckerberg would pay $3 billion for a Virtual Reality company. At the time of purchase, Oculus hadn’t even announced its first Rift. As a result, plenty of eyebrows were raised.
However, in only four years, Virtual Reality has catapulted into a booming industry that’s seeing new adopters join the following every day. There’s been some amazing development in the tech as well. What at first was reserved for developers and professional gamers only, is now available to all.
As more companies like Google, Asus, HP, Dell, Samsung, and Sony, entered the fray, it helped to make the VR headset more consumer-friendly and inexpensive. And now even Microsoft launched their “Mixed Reality” headsets, which are basically VR headsets, too. But still, a driving factor behind this movement towards VR is the availability of content. Especially adult content.
Pornography has always been at the forefront of adopting new technology. This time was no different. Virtual Reality was thought to be the next frontier, and it helped a lot of new pornography studios make a name. Thanks to the continuing patronage of fans and VR enthusiasts, the quality and variety in content have both increased. There are now over 40 VR porn sites; you can find a full top list here: Best VR Porn [NSFW].
Today, there are many new VR porn sites. The various studios have been successful in identifying people’s fetishes and catering content in accordance with it. For example, MilfVR specialises in MILF things, while 18VR produces great content with younger models. Similarly, the breadth and scope of content have expanded to include transsexual porn, gay porn, female POV porn or even horror porn.
VR Porn for women–on the rise
While transsexual porn, gay porn and horror porn, all existed in non-VR porn, female POV was something which made its first foray through VR. Since the majority of VR porn is shot in the male performer’s POV, it provides very little encouragement for female consumers. Thus, VR porn for women is on the rise as it gives women intimacy that they are missing in 2D porn.
The female POV is shot from a female performer’s POV and usually has the male performer doing all the work, while the camera carrying talent enjoys the fruits of his labor. Female POV isn’t restricted to only male-female scenes. It also features lesbian scenes. Which women do quite enjoy. There are even VR porn sites focusing solely on content for women, like Virtual Passion.
Through new easy-to-use devices, VR gets easy
The Oculus Go and Microsoft’s “Mixed Reality” headsets were already a huge success in 2018. However, now in 2019, with the Oculus Quest a new era of Virtual Reality, and thus VR porn is around the corner. The Oculus Quest will feature almost the same quality as the Rift–with no computer or sensors required. It was never so easy to use Virtual Reality. Now even people with no affinity to tech can start easily into the virtual realm and enjoy entirely new worlds.
The same goes for VR porn. The main problem with VR was always the time it took to put on the headset and get everything started up. Now with new technology around the corner watching VR porn gets easy. If you are interested in a guide for every available VR headset, check out this article: How to watch VR porn [NSFW]. It’ll get you started real quick!
And if we are already talking about devices for VR pornography: Synchronized sex toys are on the rise! It sounds like only one step away from sex robots, and that’s how it is.
For example, Kiiroo launched their VR sex toy “Launch” which is basically a fleshlight that moves according to what scene you are watching. Is it a nice cowgirl scene in Virtual Reality the Fleshlight will exactly move like her. That’s some immersion right there!
The other big company is Lovense. They are already big in the Webcam sex market with sponsoring almost all the camgirls with devices that vibrate through the tips of the costumer. Lovense too has released synchronized Fleshlights, which are a bit more affordable than what Kiiroo offers.
I think we are safe in assuming that Virtual Reality is not going anywhere. It will be, like many technologies before it, be successful through the possibilities it provides for the adult industry.
