The Best Disability-Friendly Sextech
Ergonomic thrills, smart hacks, and expert tips for a more pleasurable, inclusive experience
Sextech has given us a vast array of well-designed, clever, and even smart devices for our solo and mutual pleasures but what happens when mobility issues, vision difficulties, or other physical conditions make it difficult to wield or enjoy our favorite pleasure devices?
Fortunately, the current sextech marketplace is so full of these and other possibilities we’d need an encyclopedic-length article to cover them all, so we’ll just touch on a few examples of product categories, plus some great disability sex resources!
Magic Mount
Magic Mount, sold by Ergoerotics, is a handy wedge-shaped pillow used with vibrating wand massagers for hands-free pleasure. Due to its shape and durable foam core, it also works as a sex positioning aid, providing for extra support and range of motion. Comes in four colors: grape, merlot, chocolate, and black licorice. The velvet-textured cover is washable. Use it with or without a partner.
The Pulse Solo Essential Dragon Eye
Ten years ago, Hot Octopuss brought us the Pulse, billed as “the world’s first Guybrator.” Now the newest version, the Solo Essential Dragon Eye (named for its elegant iridescent finish), uses PulsePlate Technology with a vibrating pad that “delivers intense, high-frequency oscillations straight into the frenulum.” The Dragon Eye combines a firm grip with soft flexible sides for easy insertion no matter how hard or soft you may be. Add lube to use it as a stroker or just lie back, hold it in place, and enjoy.
LELO Enigma Double Sonic Massager
Using DeepSonic technology, the Enigma Double Sonic Massager is perfect for stimulating your or your partner’s A-spot (the anterior fornix erogenous zone (AFE) is located about two inches behind the G-spot). At the same time, the Enigma treats the outer clitoris to effective yet gentle sonic stimulation without needing to even make direct contact. This provides a delicious contrast to the toy’s ultra-powerful interior vibrations. You can read our more detailed review of this fabulous new toy here.
Helpful products for vaginal pain
Ohnut
They may look like stretchy, space-age donuts, but they’re definitely not edible! Ohnut is a set of four squishy, modular, stackable Depth-Limiting Rings you can slide onto the base of a penis, dildo, or vibrator to control depth of vaginal penetration. If you’re worried about causing or experiencing dyspareunia–pain during p/v sex—this clever accessory takes the worry out of being intimate.
These rings are super-flexible, comfortable, and retain body heat. The optional Vibrating Ohnut Ring, designed to be added to the stack, can be purchased separately.
As the website says, “Deep dyspareunia is common among people with endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, and other conditions that cause pelvic pain. Ohnut can be an effective at-home self-management solution for preventing this pain.”
Ohnuts are also great for anyone who has a surgically shortened vagina as a result of a complete hysterectomy or other procedure. And it can relieve the worry of a penetrating partner who doesn’t know “how deep can I go with hurting?”
Kiwi
Kiwi, by The Pelvic People, helps relax the vaginal opening when entry pain is a problem, as happens with vaginismus and other conditions. Kiwi works by releasing internal and external tension with shallow insertion. It has two motors with different frequencies and also provides clitoral stimulation(for blood flow and relaxation.
Kiwi is not just a toy, it’s a tool that over time, can help someone relax enough to overcome pain and begin to enjoy deeper vaginal penetration, if that is their desire.
Wait, there’s more!
Last year, some truly innovative sex tech products were introduced at the 8th Annual Love & Sex With Robots/Reimagine Sexuality Conference. Several of them have since been brought to market. Here are two that stand out:
Lattice
Touchbot’s Lattice, is a clever, lightweight 3-D printed handle for dildos and vaginal dilators. Quoting from the website: “Our flagship product Lattice is a versatile patent-pending sexual wellness tool designed to extend your reach. Use it for pleasure, pelvic health, or both! Lightweight and angle-adjustable, Lattice is 3D printed in easy-to-clean body-safe resin and connects with our line of toys, toy adapters, and dilators, as well as Soul Source and Intimate Rose dilators.” This product is sure to be a boon for anyone who has difficulty reaching far enough to use most toys and dilators.
Ziggy
Luddi’s Ziggy is a vibrating pad that is foldable, flexible, and versatile, allowing for many hands-free options. According to the website, “Ziggy’s versatile design allows it to be used in many ways. Rub it, tuck it into your underwear, sit or lay on it, stroke with it, or use it between partners.” Ziggy has eight speeds, an accessible charging pad, and though it is not inexpensive, it’s like getting several toys in one.
Also, for those customers living in Australia, “Ziggy is NDIS eligible, making it simple to claim under assistive technology when it aligns with your goals.” Luddi will assist customers who wish their Ziggy purchase to be reimbursed under Australia’s National Disability Insurance Scheme. See their NDIS Guide.
