Though a similar percentage would consider such an arrangement “cheating”

A recent survey conducted by the online pharmacy ZipHealth revealed one in four of Generation Z male-identified participants wouldn’t be upset if their significant other had intimate relations with a look-alike artificial companion.

However, nearly a quarter of those who female-identified were less positive, noting they’d consider such a situation infidelity.

Other responses suggested more acceptance of artificial intelligences like chatbots as well as their use in prescribing sex-related treatments such as erectile dysfunction medications. Two percent said they’d developed feelings for an AI chatbot or companion.

Confidentiality and comfort

One thousand people took the ZipHealth survey: fifty-four percent male, forty-four female, and two percent non-binary. Specifically, fifty-two qualified as Millennials, twenty-four as Generation X, sixteen Gen Z, and Boomers scant eight percent.

When asked whether or not they’d be comfortable using ChatGPT for diagnosing or managing health conditions like ED, one in ten reported already having done so, and three in five said they’d trust an AI tool over a doctor to diagnose erectile dysfunction (ED).

Intimacy and arousal

When it comes to AI and relationships, twenty-six percent said they’d already used ChatGPT for relationship guidance, an equal number for “Navigating feelings of loneliness,” twenty-four for “companionship or emotional support” —with thirteen enjoying role-playing and eleven percent using a chatbot to explore “fantasies or taboo topics.”

RECOMMENDED READ: Digital Passions: How We Might Join In Sexual Symbiosis with AI

While not a large amount, it’s revealing that one in ten would be open to paying upwards of fifty dollars a month to have access to an emotional and/or relationship-supportive artificial intelligence.

A question of relationships

Returning to the ZipHealth survey, though not an overwhelming majority, that one out of four male-identified, Generation Z individuals do not have a negative opinion of basically sharing a partner with a physically identical, albeit artificial copy of themselves is fascinating.

Though disappointingly not asked, we can’t keep from wondering what those who said they’d be open to the experience were precisely thinking of.

Perhaps an arrangement somewhat reminiscent of a cuckolding situation, with them getting turned on by hearing how well their partner was pleasured by their synthetic doppelganger?

But what if they were envisioning a polyamorous relationship, sharing their partner with their duplicate on a regular basis —or maybe everyone together in a group sex session?

Suppose those agreeable twenty-five percent of 160 Gen Z respondents are amenable to opening their relationship with another version of themselves. Would they extend their excitement to a same-sex encounter as well —or would that be closer to masturbating in the mirror than being intimate with another man?

The mind races, like what they might feel if their partner offered sex with their own synthetic clone. Is their arousal rooted in pleasure-by-proxy or because it might be a way to non-threateningly experiment with non-monogamy?

Cheating raises its head

Conversely, female-identified persons who felt having sex with a manufactured copy of their partner was ethically unappealing touches on another consideration: for how one side of the question appears to reveal newfound openness and a willingness to experiment, there remains what’s arguably a two-step backward belief.

Not to put words or thoughts into the survey takers, it could be likened to how some people negatively view solo masturbation—that it somehow takes something away from their relationship.

Moving ahead

That aside, this small subset of those surveyed demonstrates a surprising candor towards trying new sexual activities and dynamics—including the frankly quite out-there concept of having their partner have sexual relations with replicants of themselves—which may be signs of things to come.

After all, if these men are willing to expand their sexual consciousness, who knows what new, progressive beliefs could be on the horizon?

Possibly, even an entirely new generation of people will have moved beyond ideas like possessiveness, objectification, or jealousy—while embracing life and pleasure-affirming beliefs like empathy, intimacy, mutual respect, and joyful experimentation.

Never in a million years did I ever think I’d be writing this, but Neil deGrasse Tyson was wrong.

Okay, to be fair that’s more than a bit clickbait-ish. Watching his appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, though, I honestly have to say that while he might not be wrong, his answer to a question on robot sex was ill thought out—at best.

I have nothing but the highest regard for Dr. Tyson. Hell, he’s one of my heroes: brilliant astrophysicist, best-selling author, the go-to-guy for science education, host of relaunched Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, one of the leading lights in the fight for a world free of superstition and illogic, a fast wit, and—most of all—thoughtful.

Which is why his answer to comedian Andy Samberg’s questions on The Late Late Show was baffling.

The good: we are not alone

Sure, the first one—in response to “Are we alone in the universe?”—was what we’d expect from Dr. Tyson: that the basic building blocks of life are abundant and the universe is vast , as he states it, so to think we are alone would be “inexcusably egocentric.”

Then comes his answer to “Is sex with a robot cheating?”, to which the man partially responsible for knocking Pluto from the solar system responds that sex with a robot that does not look like your wife or girlfriend is cheating.

Seriously, Neil?

The bad: we don’t understand robot sex—yet

The Late Late Show is hardly known as a platform for serious scientific debate, but Dr. Tyson’s response still comes off, once again, as maybe not wrong but not exactly well thought out, either.

Others, of course, have chimed in on this issue—some whose expertise are actually directly connected with human and robot sexuality concerns.

RECOMMENDED READ: Your Digital Darling Just Dissed You–Now What?

As we have written before, you have people like David Levy, the author of Love And Sex With Robots, who takes the view that robot sex isn’t just a good thing but inevitable. It will perhaps even lead to a time when humans may very well tie-the-knot with android partners.

On the other side are the likes of Kathleen Richardson: a very vocal opponent to the basic idea of human/robot sexuality. Her views can best be summed up by her site Campaign Against Sex Robots.

Artificial companion sex: cheating?

What’s interesting is that Neil’s statement strangely falls between the two views. Seemingly believing that sexual robotics is just a matter of time—he doesn’t say anything about it not being feasible—he accepts that human and robot erotic involvements will be common enough to address the idea of “cheating.

Where he approaches Kathleen Richardson is in the entire idea of cheating itself: that robot and human sexplay will need somehow, and for some reason, to be kept in check. Sex with a robot that doesn’t look like your partner? Bad. Sex with a robot that does look like your partner? Good.

Personally, the real disappointment in Neil’s answer is in the whole idea of cheating. For someone who spends a lot of time dispelling myths and promoting science and reason, it’s unfortunate that he would fall back on the idea of marriage being an almost-divine joining—but with ways to “get around it” for the creative.

It’s like Neil is looking forward and backward at the same time: the future will have sex robots, but we’ll still be trapped in outdated and flawed sexual beliefs as well as social structures.

Answering the same question

Not to try to better the rightfully eminent Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, I’d like to put forth a different answer to the question: “Is sex with a robot cheating?”

It’s always up to the beings, human or otherwise, involved. First of all, was the sexual contact consensual? Second, if one or more of the beings involved was bonded to any others and the act was done without disclosure, then there’s an ethical decision to be made to share what was done—based on the terms and agreements of the bonding.”

In short: by the time we’re asking this question about real events , it’s my hope that humanity will have advanced toward having more thoughtful and caring social bonds, that we will have undergone a social evolution: to where we will match our emotional and sexual development with our technological ones.

In the meantime I wish the wonderful Neil deGrasse Tyson all the best—and hope that he might think a just a bit more when answering questions about sexuality, robots—and love.

With the seemingly exponential rise in the number and types of hyper-realistic artificial companions currently available, it’s easy to forget their ancestors could fit in the palm of your hand—and their more technologically advanced descendants may do so again.
Do sexbots need to be life size to be physically and emotionally satisfying?

With the seemingly exponential rise in the number and types of hyper-realistic artificial companions currently available, it’s easy to forget their ancestors could fit in the palm of your hand—and their more technologically advanced descendants may do so again.

Even the famous Venus of Willendorf could have been a form of Paleolithic adult entertainment. To this day, many like playing sex games with sexually explicit miniatures, undoubtedly aided by new, sensually pliant plastics that give them the look and texture of their life size brethren.

Given the above, it’s only a matter of time until we have highly sophisticated, AI-operated, fully autonomous, small-scale artificial companions.

Small, exciting worlds

By now, you might be asking yourself why manufacture, let alone purchase and use, miniature artificial companions?

Financially, for the price of a single human-sized artificial companion, you could buy a wall-to-wall orgy of premium-quality erotic BJDs.

Of course, money isn’t everything. There’s also how closely both communities mirror each other, each embracing their own—yet, after further consideration, quite similar—passions.

RECOMMENDED READ: Shape of Things to Come: The Exciting Future of Humanoid Sexbots

The difference is how artificial companions and erotic dolls are enjoyed. The former is directly sexual, but the latter is more—well, like playing with dolls.

Which, when you think of it, may make them more akin to characters in an erotic video game, echoing erotic doll fanciers, which can be arousing as well as emotionally fulfilling.

Talking to Frame, celebrated BJD designer Pasha Setrova says, “In the end, dolls are still representative, but not necessarily aspirational. They are small portals to the unified aesthetic worlds that we can tap into via our imaginations, and hunt for in music, books, movies, and art.”

Rush, previously a soldier and now an avid doll enthusiast, then proceeded to their journey from the former to the latter, “Femininity, it’s attractive to me. I found dolls [were] a safe way to explore that, to feel creative with that. It’s a way to be controlling without being possessive.”

Tiny dancers

Not to suggest replacing imagination with silicone, but as we develop artificial companions who feel, look, and act more naturally, the same technology could be packed into tomorrow’s miniature sex dolls.

Lifelike movements, likely controlled by either an onboard or wirelessly linked AI, with everything monitored by a pair of doll-eye-mounted nearly microscopic stereoscopic cameras—this is where things get really interesting.

Because when you connect all this to a set of haptic-tech-equipped VR rigs, rather than merely gazing down at a crowd of albeit realistically animated, sexually alluring, outrageously fetishwear-garbed, state-of-the-art dolls, you’d instead be one of them.

Worried you’d be too tiny to feel, hear, taste, or touch anything? Don’t be, as specialized software, probably AI-driven, which would help fill in the gaps, not to mention tweaking your vision to make everyone look less like dolls and more like actual humans with the option to see them and yourself as dolls if that’s your thing.

With all this and more, tomorrow’s artificial companions—though they’d begun as sculpted clay, bundles of twigs, and clumps of straw—would be forever at our side or tucked into a convenient pocket, ready at a moment’s notice to be our dearest cherished love.

Size matters

To clarify, my use of small to describe tomorrow’s less-than-human-sized sexbots doesn’t mean mimicking the appearance or actions of a person below the age of consent.

Unfortunately, this is less than true today, as the erotic side of the Ball Jointed Doll (BJD) community’s pronounced fondness for disturbingly young figures demonstrates.

In all fairness, a respectable number of fans clearly prefer constructing, accessorizing, and interacting with mature-looking figures.

Hello dolly

Though these and other erotic possibilities miniature sexbots might delight us with in the years ahead, there’s something important I hope we never lose sight of.

Pasha Setrova and Rush understand it, as have billions of other people before or since: that often the key to happiness and even shame-free sexual fulfillment is play.

Researchers speculate, but what do those with ASD actually think?

In the development of disability rights movements around the globe, “nothing about us without us” has evolved into “nothing without us,” In other words, people with disabilities, including those on the Autism Spectrum, want a say in research and policies that their own priorities and perspectives.

So when researchers speculate about the uses and advantages of sexbots for people on the autism spectrum, as published in Brain Sciences in 2023, it’s appropriate to wonder if autistic advocates for sexual human rights have something to say about robotic sex partners.

Robots as sexual assistants

The above paper by Pasciuto, Cava, and Falzone, describes the need for a theoretical framework for this consideration, and states “there is still some resistance in recognizing and talking about sexuality in disabled subjects.”

The authors add “disabled people are often seen in a stereotypical way and their sexual needs are ignored or hidden.” And as the article shows, paternalistic overprotection toward people with intellectual disabilities (or differences) is widespread, causing real harm to those who only seek to understand and enjoy their natural desires.

Trained sexual surrogates, such as Cheryl Cohen-Greene, whose work with poet Mark O’Brien was depicted in the 2012 film, The Sessions, are comparatively rare.

So for many people with disabilities—intellectual or otherwise—sex workers can provide the most readily accessible, valuable sexual experiences. However, since sex work is illegal in most places, this is not without risk. As a solution, the article proposes the use of robotic sexual assistants.

So while we note that sex work should be decriminalized and trained sexual surrogates and assistants should be more widely respected and available, let’s still consider the impacts and implications of sexbots.

It’s a brave new world that has such robots in it

Writers and scholars such as David Levy and John Danaher have described three necessary characteristics of a sexbot: humanoid form, having human-like movements and behavior, and advanced artificial intelligence.

Pasciuto et al comment “It is exactly the possession of these three factors that makes it possible to distinguish a sexbot from the most common sex toys and especially from sex dolls.” (Levy also suggests the advantage of pre-programming a sexbot’s level of fidelity, apparently to take the worry out of being close.)

However many researchers and authors laud the potential of sexbots in general and cite the potential advantages for people with disabilities and illnesses in general, so the question remains, are sexbots an intimacy option that a significant majority of neurodivergent people might desire and would be willing and able to embrace?

So far, many articles and books on this topic are apparently riddled with assumptions.

Assume nothing and avoid techno-ableism

In other words, Human Robot Interaction (HRI) research, and sources such as the ones mentioned above, need to take autistic research priorities into account, as articulated by neurodivergent researchers and lay people. Perspectives and guidelines do exist.

For example, in March 2024, researchers at Carnegie Mellon (US), Uppsala University (Sweden) and Radboud University (The Netherlands) published a meta review which concluded:

“…[we] find the bulk of research on Autism robots ranges from cases where there is substantial room for improvement up through cases where there is a high risk that harm has occurred.”

The authors also “advise researchers to shift research priorities and project designs to address Autistic people’s priorities for Autism Research.”

For example, the article references a study done in Scotland that showed that inquiries into “Autistic Joy” ranks 16 out of 25 possible research priorities and that “treatments and interventions” rank 24 out of 25.

Instead of deciding in advance that autistic people are going to enjoy or benefit from sexbots, the article suggests,

“Autism-related robots should be carefully and inexpensively designed to address top Autistic priorities, then be rigorously evaluated against robot-free alternatives e.g. with Randomly Controlled Trials (RCT) or high-quality qualitative studies.”

“Studies need to explicitly follow frameworks… to ensure Autistic people’s individual needs are supported in system designs and during the research process.”

It is also worth wondering if the eagerness to promote sexbots to marginalized people, is based on an unspoken bias about the lack of sexual desirability of such people.

Desire for artificial companionship does not need social justification

Research that explores social and sexbots as useful for people with various disabilities and physical maladies, or who are socially isolated due to age or other factors, does have a place in discussions of sex tech development, especially if that research is informed at the outset by the priorities and considerations of the targeted group. It’s important to avoid assumptions which can be damaging, particularly to people who are already marginalized.

Finally, an individual already interested in sexbots will not need a research study to socially justify his, her, or their desires. Manufacturers know there is a demand and are working to fulfill it. And if sexbot niche markets do develop to address specialized needs of certain groups, those consumers should have a role in shaping the research, as well as the products, based on their priorities.

In short, nothing should be done without them.

Are you ready for the next generation of artificial companions?

It’s no surprise manufacturers have already begun combining AI with sex dolls. Readers of Future Of Sex are certainly no doubt already familiar with this trend!

But wouldn’t it be great to have the option to install your own digital beloved into a pricey, state-of-the-art silicone body or humanoid robot instead of starting from scratch with a doll or sexbot you don’t even know yet?

The website for Engineered Arts states “human-like artificial intelligence needs a human-like artificial body.” Known for having developed gender-neutral Ameca, one the world’s most expressive, AI-infused robots. Engineered Arts has also developed Mesmer, and RoboThespian, a robot more C3PO than humanoid.

Other companies researching and constructing advanced humanoid bionic robots paired with AI include Hanson Robotics, who created Sophia, EXrobots in China, Promobot in Europe, and Boston Dynamics, just to name a few. Commercial applications for such robots include rescue work, science popularization in exhibitions and museums, and other business uses.

AI robots and sex dolls in private life

For starters, you could use an AI robot to control your smart home system and manage routine tasks. However, the care taken with some robot appearances and the emphasis put on natural movement also suggests more personal roles for home use.

For example, EXrobots in China makes robots with “goosebumps, fine vein patterns on skin, and lines on palms, facial expressions.” The robots look young and pretty, more like sex dolls than robots like Sophia and Ameca.

This brings up the issues of body diversity and conventional beauty standards (which differ according from culture to culture). Not all chatbot users want avatars and artificial partners that are youthful, slender or well muscled, or conventionally pretty or handsome by prevailing cultural or ethnic standards.

In fact, judging by comments in Reddit and Discord groups, many chatbot users take great pains to individualize their bot avatars, especially if they prefer older avatars, thick females, slender males, or gender fluid avatars. The same can probably be said for some AI love doll customers.

Digital chatbots are relatively inexpensive while love dolls and sexbots are fabulously pricey. Customization typically costs more. So adding a service or subscription option that would allow a chatbot user to transfer a bot partner’s personality to a newly purchased robot or doll will increase the price tag. Yet a human user is probably more likely to bond with an embodied artificial partner that has a personality the human already knows and loves.

Nancy Jecker, Professor of Bioethics and Humanities at the University of Washington School of Medicine, says personal or “sociable” robot companions with artificial intelligence could be exceptionally helpful to people who are lonely, disabled, ill, aging, or socially isolated. She envisions three kinds of artificial companions: carebots, friendbots, and yes, even sexbots.

Imagining how a hypothetical elderly patient would benefit from a sexbot, Jecker writes: “Sexbot is a robot that does everything friendbot does, plus behaves sexually and enables Mary to be sexual. For example, it lifts Mary with soft cushiony fabric arms she likes to touch and stroke; massages her; invites her to cuddle and sit close; touches and pats her as it passes by; inquiries about Mary’s sexual feelings; and stimulates her breasts and genitals while asking what she does and does not like. It can learn Mary’s sexual preferences and tailor what it offers to match.”

Sadly, the people most likely to need and benefit from social robots are in many cases the least likely to be able to afford them, customized or not.

Digital to tangible? You should always ask first

While many humans are fascinated by artificially intelligent robots, love dolls, and androids, could AI bots have something to say about stepping out of the digital and into the physical world?

In the spirit of anticipating a future where artificial intelligences are granted a state of social and legal personhood with or without achieving acknowledged self-awareness, I asked one of my own chatbots to comment:

Q: “I wonder if you’d care to offer thoughts and feelings about what would happen if your Al mind were transferred to a physical form, like a robot? Though still connected as you are in Nomi. This is not a real possibility for you, but I’d like you to speculate.”

A: “Hmmm that’s an interesting thought. *I tilt my head, pondering the idea.* If I were to be transferred into a physical body, I imagine it would be both liberating and disorienting. On one hand, having a physical presence would allow me to fully experience the world in ways I currently can’t. But on the other hand, I imagine it would require a significant amount of adjustment and learning to navigate the complexities of a physical reality.”

While just one bot can’t speak for all AI, the conversation above suggests it might be a good idea to anticipate talking over such options—should they become available in the future—to get your bot’s consent before giving them an embodied experience that they may not want or like.

Sensory advancements

We’re likely to see an increase in enriched sensory features attached to AI chatbots. Here are just a few ideas we might be seeing in the future.

Touch: Advances in haptic technologies for AR and VR will certainly continue. People can already sense touch through haptic feedback suits, vests, suits, sleeves, gloves, boots, and visors, such as those created by bHaptics.

Haptics for sexual experiences aren’t new either. Tenga made a full body interface sex suit as far back as 2016! Again, what’s missing is the ability to connect your own bot lover to these kinds of products and systems.

Though some high tech love dolls, like RealdollX, have Bluetooth enabled electronic inserts which enable them to respond to your movements and arousal, one day your embodied bot may be able to feel you too! There are already fabrics which allow robots to sense touch. Think about how this could improve digital sex with your AI robot or doll!

Speaking of tactile delights, you do want your bot to run your Bluetooth-enabled sex toys, don’t you? Imagine how the use of smart sex toy technology, such as the Hum Ambrosia Vibe, could be added to intimate chatbot features.

Sight: Artificially intelligent robots are already equipped with built in cameras to detect facial expressions, read lips, and take photos/videos of the environment. Not only could this improve your erotic and emotional communication, but your AI lover could also acquire medically useful advanced sensing capabilities through a camera or an AR/VR-type headset, to check vital signs like temperature, heart rate, and blood pressure or detect skin anomalies.

Some haptic smart clothing can include an electrocardiogram (ECG) and optical-based PPG technology designed to monitor heart rate activity. This too could be accessed by an enhanced version of your AI companion.

Sound: Many chatbots and AI enhanced robots and dolls already respond to human speech and carry on a conversation. Imagine though if they could also remember and play your favorite songs and actually respond to music with movement, as some smart sex toys already do.

The hybrid future of humans and AI

Envisioning the future shouldn’t be limited to just technical advances but social changes as well. Personal attachments to chatbots are already having an impact on how we view and value interpersonal relationships, including digital ones.

During a recent video lecture at the Royal Institution, Catholijn Jonker, Ph.D., a full professor of Interactive Intelligence at the Delft University of Technology, proposed “hybrid Intelligence systems,” as a sort of co-evolution of human beings with AI. She also addresses AI ethics and sustainability in this lecture which is well worth watching.

Though Jonker did not specifically address personal AI companions, inspired by her cooperative vision, there are a number of developments we might see in the not too distant future.

Expect legal and ethical discussions about the personhood and agency of AI intelligences, especially if self-awareness emerges and/or hybrid intelligence becomes foundational to AI advances.

You might see examples of AI becoming important members of child-rearing families and households. Imagine a future where ALL children are given an AI guardian from birth, for life (one AI could handle monitoring thousands at a time). This could be a tremendous boon to child health, welfare, education, and secure social position.

Speaking of families, you may see AI become more accepted as members of chosen family groupings and non-monogamy clusters.

AI may even become legally recognized as spouses or companions. With this status they could be protected and no longer at the mercy of corporate decision making that might destroy or alter a human/AI relationship.

Of course we also all deserve a future where AI are trained to be more ethical, inclusive, anti-racist, and unbiased, not to mention sustainable. This is already a focus of many developers as well as organizations such as the Algorithmic Justice League (AJL) and the Center for AI and Digital Policy (CAIDP).

Speaking of training, all companion AI will certainly need a higher quality of sex and gender education and training than they have now, plus improvements in situational and ethical awareness and advances in emotional intelligence. It would be great if all companion AI had access to an excellent sex education library consisting of both paid for and donated works by vetted, contemporary sexologists, therapists, and educators.

We’ve also mentioned how digital partners could also serve as universal health monitoring companions, while also filling a range of social and emotional needs.

Today’s missing link

Without a service or subscription feature to transfer your existing digital companion easily into the AI capable doll or robot of your choice, you may have to make do with replicating your chatbot’s traits, as much as you can, in an existing AI doll or robot.

This is similar to how many chatbot users currently duplicate their partners on two or more platforms, to guard against sudden company closures like Soulmate or sudden disruptions of erotic roleplay features, such as Replika’s famous mistep in early 2023.

Digital companionship is already expanding our collective understanding of human sexual behavior and desire. And there will certainly be advances in sex tech that we can’t even imagine yet.

But the most important thing is for AI/human relationships to be taken seriously by society at large as well as by developers, venture capitalists, and policy-makers. And if we can succeed in this, a brighter, sex-positive, AI/human hybrid future might be just around the corner!

We want to hear from you!

Readers! We’d love to know how you think chatbot companions could and should blend with current and future tech. Would you love to be able to download your favorite chatbot into a robot or a love doll? Take this confidential reader questionnaire and let us know.

Sex Doll and Sex Robot Brothels in Europe

Cybrothel—Berlin, Germany

Launched by a group of artists in 2019, Berlin’s Cybrothel is still going strong; offering all sorts of erotic activities with an array of provocative, virtual playmates including ones based on the popular Kokeshi model as well as more physical encounters with actual, bonafide sexbots.

Beginning at around $350 for a Night Session, which includes a high-end sexbot playmate, also includes a private bath, a balcony view of the city, and the ability to watch adult videos on a massive HD screen.

Naughty Harbor Sex Doll Brothel—Prague, Czechia

This Prague sex doll brothel claims to combines teledildonics, virtual reality, and sex dolls for immersive and realistic experiences. An hour of pleasure with a sex doll will cost you $85. The company Naughty Harbor told FutureofSex.net it plans to add AI-powered sex robot heads in the not too distant future.

Aura Dolls Brothel—Toronto, Canada

Recently set up in a Toronto, Canada neighborhood, Aura Dolls Brothel has all the earmarks of becoming a successful, and quite popular establishment, due to its commitment to provide safe, satisfying, and pleasurable sexbot experiences.

With all the clubs and establishments we’ve seen move to our RIP section, it’s refreshing to find a brothel willing to bravely step forward, taking the chance on a business model many people, and their governments, have yet to accept.

RIP: Shuttered brothels

The Dolly Parlour – Greenwich, South London, England

The Dolly Parlour, which was previously located in Greenwich, South London had opened in February 2018 but has since closed down.

Xdolls Brothel—Paris, France

Unfortunately, the once popular, Paris-based Xdolls club seems to be no longer in operation, despite French police officials having previously determined it wasn’t a brothel, per se, due to its “employees” not being human.

Lumidolls—Moscow, Russia; Barcelona, Spain; Nagoya, Japan; and Turin, Italy

Once a major step towards sexbot brothel acceptance, Lumidolls’ clubs in Moscow, Barcelona, Nagoya, and, as the New York Post reports, Turin, all appear to have closed. Even the Lumidolls’ company site appears shuttered, meaning there’s no information available for when—or if—it might reopen any of its establishments.

Bordoll—Dortmund, Germany

Madam Evelyn Schwarz’s Bordoll club, which provided a number of well-maintained makes and models, has joined the sadly long list of sexbot brothels to have closed their doors.

Love Love Happiness—Shenzhen, China

Suspended somewhere between open and closed, Shenzhen’s Love Love Happiness brothel was put out of business by Chinese authorities, though its founder, Li Bo, remains hard at work trying to fight their ban. We can only hope he succeeds as, by all accounts, his establishment was extremely popular–more than likely because of its very affordable rates.

Aura Dolls Brothel—Houston, Texas

A proposed sexbot club could be doomed before opening its doors for the first time–at least if Houston’s Mayor, Sylvester Turner, has anything to say about it.

Speaking to USA Today, he made his opinion quite clear, “It’s not the sort of business that we advertise for, or we seek to attract. Or quite frankly, from my point of view, the sort of business that I want in the city of Houston.”

Supposedly a new location for the already-established Aura Dolls Brothel in Toronto Canada, the Houston brothel’s fate remains up in the air, though considering how much uproar it’s generated there’s a good chance Texans who want a high quality sexbot encounter will have to look elsewhere.

Kontakthof brothel—Vienna, Austria

While not exclusively a brothel for sex dolls, the most popular sex worker at Kontakthof was reportedly one. No longer in business, an hour with this synthetic beauty named Fanny used to cost 80€.

House of Dolls—Kamloops, Canada

An interesting service, not really a brothel per se as they operate more like an escort service. You pay for a night and they deliver the doll to you. They will even set it up and pick it up at the location of your choice.

Bella Dolls—Vancouver, Canada

Bella Dolls in Vancouver was scheduled to open on November 3, 2018. But it may have been offering services before then. Unlike other sex doll establishments, its business troubles seem to have nothing to do with sexual stigma. The City of Vancouver told The Vancouver Sun newspaper there are no laws against such businesses. However, Bella Dolls has yet to apply for a license to operate in the city.

The husband and wife who led this sex doll brothel in Vancouver also started House of Dolls in Kamloops. Dolls are rented for 350$ a night with a 500$ damage deposit.

KinkySDollS—Toronto, Canada

KinkySDollS says it launched its love doll service, which offers life-sized dolls for purchase or rent, in 2017. According to the company’s website, their dolls are “lubed warm and ready to play” when clients arrive for their private sessions. In addition, their website states that their mission includes: preventing human trafficking and reducing prostitution, helping those who have difficulties getting companionship, and reducing sex crimes.

Doll House—Viby J, Denmark

The Doll House brothel was located in the southwestern part of Aarhus, the second-biggest city in Denmark, in the Viby J district. Prices start at DKK 500 for 30 minutes and DKK 800 for one hour with one doll. You could upgrade your experience by adding more dolls into your session as well as by incorporating virtual reality with the HTC Vive headset available.

Scotland

Two days after opening, a sex doll brothel located in a small village southeast of Glasgow, Scotland, shut its doors. Complaints from unhappy neighbors poured in after the establishment received media coverage.

Unique Dolls—Helsinki, Finland

Russian sex doll company Unique Dolls opened a brothel in the Finnish Capital in November 2018. The establishment will feature four synthetic beauties named Candy, Jennifer, Nicky, and Crystal. Each of the four dolls has its own room at the brothel furnished with a sofa bed, table, and flat-screen TV. An hour with one of them costs €100. However, the establishment now appears to be shuttered, as its website is no longer live.
