We’ve received quite a treat from the folks over at LifeSelector [NSFW], having been given the awesome opportunity to review its hybrid game/pornography offerings.

Before now I had never heard of LifeSelector, which is surprising considering just how enormous this site is!

What is LifeSelector?

I’m sure we all remember those amazing choose-your-own-adventure books growing up. At the end of each scene, you were given a few options on what you, the protagonist, could do next.

Then you’d turn over to the page, read a bit more, and perhaps realize you made the wrong choice and flip back (Yup, I cheated at choose-your-own-adventure novels as a kid, now everyone knows). Anyway. segway aside, LifeSelector is the grown-up version of that, except with pornography, and no wrong choices.

So in case that intro didn’t frame the premise of LifeSelector well enough for you, let’s do a rundown on how it differs from other more generic adult sites.

How does it work?

After logging into LifeSelector [NSFW] for the first time, if you manage to avoid going blind from the sheer visual bombardment of content, you choose a “show,” which is a small story-driven adult game/film.

Each show is divided into small segments. At the end of each segment, you are given up to three options on how to proceed next, like a choose-your-own-adventure book.

The first segment of each story is free to watch, but when the “choose-your-own sex” options appear at the end, you’re given the choice to watch further. To continue, however, you must spend “credits” in order to see how your decision played out.

The action that follows is always something sexy, by the way. You don’t need to worry too much about getting a “game over” by choosing an action like, “go home” or “mow the lawn.”

Each decision you make costs only a few credits, the early options may ask for 3 credits with later options upping the ante to 15+ credits.

But don’t let that dissuade you from LifeSelector as “credits” are relatively inexpensive.

At the time of writing this review, you can purchase yourself 100 credits for less than $10. And believe me, 100 credits can certainly last you a while as long as you’re not planning on binge-watching LifeSelector like you do Netflix.

A unique service

I’ve certainly seen my share of adult content, but LifeSelector brings something unique to the table: a layer of uncertain mystery, interactivity, and an overwhelming array of content.

When you’re dealt your hand of sexy choices and decide how to proceed, you’re never exactly sure of where that decision may lead. I mean sure, your getting sex, but that’s just a little too broad of a statement.

In an age where people are shying away from monthly subscription-based adult content in favor of the trillions of terabytes of free pornography on the internet, I have to admit LifeSelector certainly seems to have found its market in the form of XXX microtransactions.

This move away from huge subscription fees is pretty innovative and it’s always good to see sites trying out new strategies to make the premium adult content fit into what has essentially become a literal free market.

Another unique feature of LifeSelector [NSFW] is the way in which new content is added to the site.

So we’ve already covered how LifeSelector is using microtransactions to get users to re-embrace the days of paying for adult content. But the way the content is chosen and paid for on the LifeSelector platform is through crowdfunding. Just like Kickstarter, but for pornography.

Creating a single interactive experience is a flat $12,000. The totals are shown as more donations are added to the pool and each crowd-funded project also includes stretch goals for additional content starring the actress.

I really have to admit LifeSelector has definitely impressed me with its ingenuity and willingness to experiment with new concepts.

The Verdict

If you are someone who has grown tired of conventional adult entertainment and maybe you’ve already watched everything on Pornhub [NSFW], then seriously give this site a try.

It’s free to sign up and most of the content allows you a decent preview of what you’re getting before you spend credits. You’ve really got nothing to lose.

This VR experience will have you coming back for more.

As many of you have no doubt heard by now, Steam has recently lifted its restrictions on developers selling adults-only titles on its distribution network.

This, as I mentioned in my previous article discussing the game giant’s brave move, is a huge step in the right direction for the adult game industry.

So I’d like to thanks Steam and the developers over at HFTGames for sending us a copy of the virtual reality experience Mandy’s Room. As one of the first uncensored games released on the platform, we’re getting our first up-close-and-personal look at what the future of adults games in the mainstream may look like.

Mandy’s Room puts you into the body of a small, curious little robot named Mr. Jenkins. He/you embark on a voyeuristic journey accompanied by his new owner Mandy, a free-spirited nudist obsessed with masturbation and, of course, her new friend Mr. Jenkins.

As well as being semi-intelligent, Mr. Jenkins can also read Mandy’s mind and learn her every waking thought as well as every secret desire that crosses her mind. It doesn’t take long to discover the game’s star seldom thinks of anything other than pleasuring herself.

How does it ‘play’?

Since Mandy’s Room is one of the first adults-only “VR experiences” available on Steam, it’s more of an interactive movie than a video game.

While playing, the closest experience resembling player interaction is during scenes in which Mandy asks you questions. As the erotic story is mainly designed to enjoy with virtual reality headsets, you must vehemently nod your head in agreement or violently shake your head from side to side to disagree with Mandy.

It’s also a shame that the only interactive element of Mandy’s Room is where I found my first issue.

Over the course of the game, Mandy will telepathically ask you sexy and alluring questions to progress the story. The game demands you to answer, but it is only an illusion of choice. In fact, you are only able to give the “correct” answer, meaning nothing happens if you answer “no” instead of “yes” when Mandy, for example, asks if you can keep a secret.

The first few times this happened, I sat in front of my PC, forcefully shaking my head like I was having a seizure and thinking my game was broken until I nodded my head gently indicating the affirmative. Then lo and behold, the game acknowledged my action and progressed.

You are creating an immersive VR experience, not a movie. if I can’t actually answer no to a question, do not give me the option to. That’s just a great way to break immersion.

There are a number of different scenes/levels in Mandy’s Room generally broken up into instances when Mandy activates Mr. Jenkins. Or the peeping-tom bot decides to activate himself and spy on our hot protagonist during one of her regular pleasure sessions.

The more Mr. Jenkins watches, the more he wants to please his sexy new mistress. The wee robot eventually opts to buy Mandy a huge piece of autonomous sex machinery to give her pleasure while he gets his voyeur on.

This is where the VR experience began to give the user some meaningful options by way of selecting a pre-animated sex routine for the robot to perform on the innocent young lady.

When the VR experience reached this point, I perked up a bit and thought perhaps the last hour was just a really long intro sequence and perhaps Mandy’s Room was about to start. But alas, as soon as you perform the three predefined functions of the sexbot, the game ends and you are thrust back to the main menu.

So since I was already at the main menu, I checked out the mini-game included in Mandy’s Room and instantly thought to myself, “Why wasn’t any of this included in the main plot?”

The mini-game consists of Mr. Jenkins standing patiently outside of Mandy’s Room as a lookout after her father removes her bedroom door as a punishment.

Why does Mandy need a lookout? Because she is super horny and needs to masturbate. This mini-game is won by shaking your head to alerting Mandy when her father is coming up the hall so she can stop masturbating and pretend to study.

It is a little strange you only need to keep a lookout for Dad. As Mandy has stated, Mom knows she’s masturbating, so you won’t get “game over” if she walks into the room while her daughter is going at it.

Sound and graphics

The visuals in Mandy’s Room are definitely up there with some of the best interactive adult VR experiences I have had the pleasure of reviewing. Mandy’s skin textures are beautiful and alluring, her animations are smooth and sensual, and the environment is organic and littered with tiny details that lend well to any VR experience.

I’ve said many times before when reviewing these titles that I tend to spend a lot of time looking at the details of an environment. Mandy’s Rooms definitely gets a pass, although using free assets from various 3D warehouses should be avoided when releasing a game for $17 to the public.

As with the visuals, the sound quality is also great. Mandy is fully voiced by a talented voice actress and the tone and style fit her character well. It’s not often you come across a small indie studio that is able to sell passable voice acting.

While we’re still on the subject of sound, I was unsure whether to I mention this next gripe of mine. But yes, we need to talk about the premise of Mandy communicating telepathically with Mr. Jenkins, specifically in relation to the graphics, gameplay, and audio, since it’s an annoyance to all three.

I spent almost the entire playthrough thinking about this issue. Even after I stopped playing, I kept thinking about it.

If it was the intention of the developers to have Mandy only communicate telepathically with Mr. Jenkins, then why does she “think” sex noises and breathing sounds at him while masturbating? Why does she laugh uncontrollably in her own head without showing outward signs of joy?

Perhaps this bothered me more than it should have, but once I noticed it I couldn’t stop seeing it.

While playing Mandy’s Room I challenged myself to give it a go and tried really hard to laugh inside my own head, as Mandy does frequently in game, for longer than 10 seconds. It’s really hard work.

I don’t know why HFTGames didn’t take the extra time and just animate Mandy’s mouth and have her deliver some spoken dialogue. It feels like the developers were unsure how to animate the character to speak, so they came up with a convoluted story gimmick to mask it that just doesn’t work.
Final thoughts

Despite the small annoyances I found with Mandy’s Room. I honestly cannot say the game offers a bad experience. I did play it through twice over, once initially for this review and a second time because I forgot to grab footage for this review.

Even on the second playthrough with steam coming from my ears, I still didn’t mind sitting through it again. If you have a spare hour and want to try out of the very first adult-only title released on Steam, Mandy’s Room is definitely worth checking out.

I approached Crystal Maidens [NSFW] with absolutely no idea what this little-known hentai game was all about.

I admit I was skeptical, dubious, and doubtful upon finding the web-based gacha title created by indie developer Superhippo on Nutaku [NSFW].

That is until I noticed I had literally just lost four hours.

Welcome to Crystal Maidens

I am sure I’m not alone when it comes to my passion for collectible gacha titles, from Final Fantasy BE to Dragonball Z on Android. They are a massively addictive time sink, and, we love them.

But I never thought I would find an adults-only gacha title, let alone one that supports browser play as well as Android support. Crystal Maidens weaves together great storytelling, addictive combat, and a never-ending quest to level up your “maidens” for more reasons than their combat strength.

In the world of Crystal Maidens [NSFW], one of the defining mechanics is the “Romance Bar,” which functions as a second XP bar for your maidens. The difference is when the bar is full instead of getting stronger your Maiden loses some clothes.

For each romance level attained, you unlock part of a sexy, scintillating image of your character. Once all the pieces are uncovered. you not only get to admire the erotic artwork unique to the title. You also get to take part in a short cutscene where your “maiden” shows you her “special talents.”

If the intro hasn’t convinced you to at least give this game a try, then keep reading because I’m going to tell you everything good, bad and meh about this little gem.

Like always let’s start with the meaty center of what makes a game in this genre appealing: the graphics.

Titillating visuals

Crystal Maidens has left me in two minds on how to rate the graphics. On one hand, the still artwork and cutscenes of the hentai game are amazing. They weave traditional anime and Western art styles together to give us some pretty unique looking female characters. The level of detail in the cutscenes and still images is superb. I really do think the developers nailed these art assets.

On the other hand, all the fancy detailed and beautiful artwork goes away once the “gameplay” starts and you enter the battlefield. Then the characters you send out to fight are teeny little sprites, barely distinguishable from one another and no larger than the tiniest fingernail.

Surprisingly for a sex-crazed gacha game, I really only expected gameplay to be token at best. A kind of thinly veiled pretense to make you feel like you’re not spending three hours staring at the same four pictures of a scantily clad woman, like trying to watch porn on the slowest internet in existence.

Gripping gameplay

The gameplay is actually fun, a little addictive and sometimes challenging. A simple breakdown of a level consists of choosing four of your maidens to drop into a combat zone to battle against the enemy. For the most part, this is done automatically, but you are in control of when and where they use their special skills.

Completing a level nets you a small number of colored orbs, which are then used to level up your characters. This not only makes them strong enough to take on more challenging levels. But it also increases their “Romance” meter, giving you access to their images a single slice at a time.

The unlockable images range from “at a little revealing” to “full-blown X- Rated content”, which is probably why you won’t be seeing this in the Google Play Store anytime soon.

Now so far, I have been pretty positive about Crystal Maidens, partly because I am a massive sucker for gacha games. But that doesn’t mean the hentai title is without faults.

Free gameplay vs. pay to play

My main gripe with Crystal Maidens [NSFW] was hitting the paywall pretty fast after starting.

Don’t get me wrong, Crystal Maidens can be played for free. But after an hour or two, your progress slows so much you are forced to either come back tomorrow when your energy is replenished or buy in-game currency called “gems”

Buying in-game gems can cost you anywhere from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars. While I understand that small developers need to pay their bills, spending hundreds of dollars on what is essentially a black market mobile game seems a little steep.

My second pet hate in mobile games is “energy” and arbitrary wait times. I never understand why a developer deliberately goes out of their way to stop a consumer from using their product. I would have been happy to invest more time into this game if it wasn’t for running out of energy and either having to hand over $5 to refill my bar so I could play another mission or come back tomorrow.

So I begrudgingly waited.

So all in all, would I recommend Crystal Maidens? Yes. If you want a mobile or browser title which is full of collectibles, unlockables, and sexy hentai adult fun, then yes, by all means, dive headfirst into this hot little title, just keep an eye on your wallet.

I happily award Crystal Maidens by Superhippo 5.25 out of 10 overpriced in-game “gem” currencies.

Big changes lie ahead since the platform lifted its ban on sexual content.

Only a few short months ago, game developers were feeling the wrath of Valve’s mighty ban on sexual content hosted on its popular video game platform Steam.

But the Valve we’re witnessing this September is a whole new beast.

The corporation recently announced it will be relaxing its family-friendly approach to digital game distribution on Steam. In a recent blog post, Valve gave a brief overview of what to expect in its new (almost) “anything goes” approach, which excludes illegal content and trolling.

And although there is always bound to be some opposition, the community has been very supportive of the surprise move by the digital distribution giant.

What will this mean for adult game developers?

A whole new world is about to open up for the game developers who were previously relegated to the shadows, shunned from the mainstream marketplaces by an overly conservative community.

The new and improved Steam has not only given smaller independent developers a way to sell their art, but it will add legitimacy to adult only-gaming. This is something the niche industry has struggled with since its inception.

I am almost positive in the coming weeks we are about to see an overwhelming amount of poorly made hentai puzzle games and a hundred different clones of flappy bird with boobs.

However, I pray that developers who want to use this opportunity to join mainstream gaming to release only quality products and not rush for the quick cash grab—no matter how enticing it would be to release a knock-off version of Angry Birds in which the feathered characters are endowed with genitals and other sexualized features.

A double-edged sword

While it’s great to see Steam standing up for its consumers, or at least getting out of their way, there is still the issue of policing the new content.

Reading the comments of Steam users underneath the Valve blog post that announces the ban lift, many were concerned the new relaxed rules are akin to a kind of Trojan Horse.

The Steam community may well get some really amazing giant wooden horses. But how many trash games are going to be let in with them? And does this up the possibility of destroying the platform from within?

This is a valid concern from the community. Once you remove the barrier for entry and begin allowing anyone virtually unvetted to release content on a platform, you will likely end up with a second Google-style Play Store which has become infamous for its ad-ridden freemium games.

Releasing enough shovelware onto Steam unchecked could run the real risk of destabilizing the balance of quality titles and lowering the value of the real content.

If you’re a player, we shouldn’t be choosing for you what content you can or can’t buy. If you’re a developer, we shouldn’t be choosing what content you’re allowed to create. – Valve

Our first victory (just not for me)

Last week, Steam released its first full 100% uncensored release, Negligee: Love Stories. This is proof that Steam isn’t messing around releasing R18+ adult content on its platform, which is great news unless you live in one of the 18 Countries where this game is not allowed to be sold.

Though Steam is taking a hands-off approach to digital distribution, it would seem many governments around the world aren’t planning to follow suit like Australia, where I am writing this article.

Many countries like Australia are still quite draconian when it comes to adult-only gaming and still make developers heavily censor their games or risk having their work refused classification altogether.

Though there is an argument to be made for home console gaming, I simply cannot see the point on a platform like Steam, since you always have the option to legally download the software directly from the developer’s website.

But alas if you, unfortunately, happen to find yourself residing in one of the 18 countries not invited to the X-Rated Steam party, your options are quite slim. You can move countries to somewhere a little less strict on adult content or use a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to legally change your location

As demand for quality and immersive adult content has steadily increased and barriers to entry have dropped, we’ve seen streams of new releases for adult titles.

But with so many interactive sex games available and most sporting price tags that more than match their supplied content, where should you be investing your time and more importantly your money?

Girlvania: Summer Lust [NSFW] from Girlvanic studios may be the answer.

So why try this girl-on-girl sex simulator game?

The graphics

This raunchy release, in essence, is a visually amazing girl-on-girl sex simulator game. Sporting highly detailed and customizable models and a unique art style Girlvania [NSFW] definitely caught my attention.

Unlike its competitors, Girlvania shrugs off the fetters of realism in exchange for a more cartoon-like experience, though it may turn away some consumers if you’re into a more realistic environment.

So how does Girlvanic’s latest title stack up to the opposition?

Let’s start with one of the most important aspects of any interactive sex game: graphics. Graphically, Girlvania [NSFW] stands up pretty well. Since the developers opted for a less realistic setting with a cartoon vibe, they definitely nailed it with their steamy streamline approach of models. The technical approach of the four usable models is amazing.

This praise, however, doesn’t come without a really big “but.” I can’t help get the feeling the developers did indeed invest a great deal of effort into creating an amazingly detailed and mouth-watering female model. So much effort, in fact, they forgot to model the other three girls individually, and I suspect a bit of the old copy-paste was thrown in to speed up the development cycle.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time playing and reviewing some great sex simulator games in the same genre as Girlvania [NSFW] and the diversity shown in similar releases like CityofSin3D or SinVR just isn’t present here.

Though there are four sexy women included, it feels like I’m simply staring at four of the same woman in different skins. So graphically, Girlvania gets a pass. It’s just a shame about the lack of diversity in its female cast.

Veering away from graphics, time of check out if Girlvania holds up mechanically.

The user interface

Firstly, I’m going to throw this out there, the game crashes frequently. Today I spent around two hours in Girlvania [NSFW]. In that time I experienced around 12 crashes. But I should give Girlvanic the benefit of the doubt here and preface this with. “Maybe it was just me,” since I couldn’t find any posts regarding others experiencing this issue. This occurred most frequently while navigating through the interface.

Operating the menus presented a bit of a learning curve and I really wasn’t a fan of their design. The user interface (UI) could definitely use some tweaking. The first rule of designing a user interface is that it should be intuitive and definitely not require a tutorial (which is available in the Girlvanic support pages).

I would suggest to the development team, instead of writing a user guide, instead, spend a little extra time making the user interface less convoluted. This genre of interactive sex game should not have a learning curve.

Now that the boring stuff is out of the way, let’s stroll over to the more “interesting” mechanics of Girlvania.

Model interaction and response

Girlvania touts itself as an anatomically correct sex simulator game, which is amazing. It’s been a standing complaint of mine that the models in sexual simulation software generally have no reaction to outside stimuli.

Girlvania [NSFW], on the other hand, has put in an incredible amount of effort making sure all the different textures of the female body react independently in each interaction. Breasts jiggle, orifices adjust in real time to penetration, even the outer and inner labia have their own realistic simulations accounting for their distinct texture and react to every touch as it happens.

No pre-backed animations here, this is where Girlvania shines and sets itself apart from others in its genre.

Girlvania [NSFW], as mentioned, is predominantly a girl-on-girl sex simulator game, but that doesn’t mean guys can’t join in the fun, too. A few clicks and you will be offered a wide array of sexual stimulation devices to play with. Some all-round staples of the genre like dildos are among the options. However, if you have a distinct or more experimental palette, you can choose objects like beer bottles, energy drinks, lollipops, and even ice cream cones.

Once you’ve selected your playtime “equipment,” you’re given full control over the object and it’s time to partake in the action. If you get tired of manually controlling the item or you just need to “free up a hand,” you can also set the interactive sex game props to run on auto-mode.

For players with a foot fetish, you’ll want to buy Girlvanic’s Leg & Feet Expansion Pack to enjoy sexy acts like footjobs, toe sucking, and foot worship.

The verdict

Overall, Girlvania [NSFW] succeeds in so many fields over similar sex simulator games on the market, but in other areas it finds itself wanting.

The detail the developers put into the smooth touchable character models is one of the defining traits of the title. Yet, it lacks diversity and the customization of its competitors.

The hot sexual encounters you watch are wonderfully animated. Still, they don’t feel natural. The women make all the right movements and sounds, yet nonetheless they feel a little mechanical. The environments look like they were lifted from a AAA title, but lack personality.

In essence, Girlvania [NSFW] is on the right track, but for me it just wasn’t there yet, I felt I was playing a Beta version of the software and I would love to take another look at this title again in the future when it hopefully offers more content.

Verdict? I do indeed recommend this title if you are into lots and lots of hot girl-on-girl action. However, if you prefer more control over your models then you may be better off playing a more versatile and less niche sex game.

This week courtesy of SinVR [NSFW], and in exchange for an honest review, I was given full access to one of the Internet’s most popular VR and 3D interactive sex game portals.

The wonderfully designed SinVR adult software is intended for use with a PC-enabled VR headset or Android (Cardboard). Don’t have access to one? Don’t fear! The sex game platform will run just fine on your Windows desktop supporting non-VR modes with keyboard and mouse control.

Virtually real hotties and parodies

SinVR is predominantly a simulation software allowing you to experience simulated sexual encounters with a huge roster of women, with more constantly being added to the lineup.

On top of the large list of female characters, the software also has a gigantic list of locales for you to enjoy, each with its own list of specific sexual positions and erotic poses for the user to experiment with.

SinVR [NSFW] includes a handful of its own unique characters like the sexy school teacher, a Voluptuous Vampire, and even a Zombie Nurse. But I suspect it’s their “parody” characters that are the platform’s drawcard.

The latest parody character named Wonder Slut, clearly inspired by our favorite heroine Wonder Woman, is now available along with her unique location set in London. She comes with scripted vocals and a sexy costume. Other awesome parody characters include Dragon Milf and Alana Quinn, who bear striking resemblances to much-lusted-after characters in Game of Thrones and The Suicide Squad.

The 3D models and locations are incredibly well detailed and rendered. Although with the Dragon Milf laid out in front of you, her realistic and mouthwatering physical appearance definitely drew the bulk of my attention.

The level of care and detail placed in each scene is amazing. As someone who has studied game development and animation, I spent a lot of time zooming the camera around to examine the level of care invested in each of the 3D spaces. I cannot fault the developers on this whatsoever.

Sound and vision

Where SinVR began to fail for me was in its animation, which is a shame considering the great work put into each model and their respective textures. I’ve mentioned this in previous reviews but I want to really saturate this point: animation in a simulated sexual encounter is important. As a developer of this genre of software, your role should be maximizing a player’s immersion, not just creating pretty window dressing.

The faces of the performers are almost completely static, save their mouth popping open and closed to deliver their dialogue. Rigging a face for animation properly is important to breathe life into a scene. The same goes for clipping issues.

Nothing breaks immersion more than the first time you see a penis exit through a character’s back, or watching one of the models perform oral sex with a penis exiting out the front of her throat. These issues should be addressed during the Quality Assurance (QA) phase in development.

To be fair though, animation problems seem to be present in almost all VR and 3D sex simulation software. I truly hope it’s an issue that gets addressed moving forward, especially when people are paying subscriptions or handing over cash for individual downloadable content (DLC).

Now let’s talk sound quality. Overall SinVR [NSFW] gets a pass, I can tell they put some real effort into the dialogue and ambient sounds of each character and scene.

Some of the characters spoken dialogue was so high pitched it grated on me, and on occasion, the ambient sounds were set well too high. One scene in particular inside the Dragon Milf’s temple, there’s a huge obnoxious dragon walking around in the background.

On top of occasionally forcing his head through the body of the female character model, it also roars and at one point breathed right in my ear so loud I had to smash the mute button to save myself.

My final thoughts on SinVR

• I had an overall good experience with the software.
• The interface is designed nicely, easy to navigate for people new to VR and Veterans alike.
• The detail put into each model and location is amazing, I was rather impressed, possibly some of the best 3D model work I’ve seen so far for this genre.
• The sound quality is overall great, all the parody characters deliver unique dialogue which enhances immersion in each the scene. Although they have a tendency to repeat themselves and never stop delivery their lines, ever
• Poor animation, in certain areas. Not every animation was a failure, but enough was missing to break my willing suspension of disbelief.

But despite its shortfalls, overall, SinVR does outshine its competitors in the virtual reality and 3D marketplace, if you have a VR headset and are in the market for some fun adult software, I would recommend you give SinVR a go.
